If you're trying to tag a location in Plann but it's not showing up, you’re not alone. This usually happens because the location doesn’t exist in Facebook’s Places database — which is the source Plann uses to search for locations.
Even if a place appears on Instagram or Google Maps, it still needs to exist in Facebook’s system for it to work in Plann or other social scheduling tools. This is due to how Meta’s API works.
Why locations might not appear in Plann
Plann uses Meta’s API to fetch location data. That means:
You're searching Facebook’s official Places database, not Google Maps or Instagram directly.
If a location isn’t appearing, it likely hasn’t been added to Facebook yet.
Meta treats app-based location data (like what you see inside Instagram) differently from what’s available to third-party tools.
📝 Note: Plann can’t manually add or update locations — all location data is controlled by Facebook.
How to add a location to Facebook
You can try adding your missing location to Facebook. There are two ways to do it:
Option 1: Use the Facebook mobile app
Open the Facebook app on your phone.
Start a new post and tap Check In.
Search for your city or location name.
If it doesn't appear, scroll down and tap Add [Your Place Name] or Add a New Place.
Enter the required details:
Name: The name of your location
Category: Select something like City, Neighborhood, or Landmark
Address: Use a central or official address
Submit your new location.
💡 Tip: Make sure your phone’s location services (GPS) are turned on. This helps Facebook verify and approve your submission.
Option 2: Create a Facebook Page for your location
Go to: facebook.com/pages/create
Choose a category like Community, City, or Local Business.
Enter your location name and relevant details.
Publish the page.
💡 Tip: Encourage others to tag or check in to the page — increased activity helps establish the location in Facebook’s system.
What happens next?
Once your new location is live on Facebook:
It may take some time to become searchable in Plann.
The more people tag, check in, or mention the location, the faster it gets recognized.
